Introduction to the IT Series
The LEM IT series comprises high-precision Fluxgate current transducers designed for applications requiring exceptional measurement accuracy. This user manual covers the installation, operation, and maintenance procedures necessary to achieve the specified performance levels.
Mechanical Installation
Proper mechanical installation is critical for achieving the specified measurement accuracy. The following guidelines ensure optimal performance:
Mounting Orientation
The IT series transducers should be mounted in the orientation specified in the datasheet. Some models are sensitive to orientation due to the Fluxgate core design. Always verify the recommended mounting position before installation.
Thermal Management
While IT series transducers are designed for indoor laboratory environments, thermal management remains important. Ensure adequate air circulation around the transducer and avoid mounting near heat sources. The specified accuracy is maintained within the operating temperature range of -10°C to +50°C.
Vibration Isolation
For applications in environments with mechanical vibration, use vibration isolation mounts to prevent mechanical stress on the Fluxgate core, which can affect measurement accuracy.
Electrical Connections
Correct electrical connections are essential for achieving the specified measurement performance:
- Primary conductor: use busbars or cables with adequate cross-section to minimize heating
- Power supply: use a stable, low-noise DC power supply (±15V or ±24V as specified)
- Signal output: use shielded twisted pair cables for the analog output signal
- Grounding: connect the transducer ground to a single-point system ground to avoid ground loops
Calibration and Verification
Periodic calibration ensures that the IT series transducer maintains its specified accuracy throughout its operational lifetime.
Initial Calibration
The IT series is factory-calibrated and does not require field calibration. However, verification of the zero offset and sensitivity is recommended upon installation to confirm proper operation.
Periodic Verification
Annual verification of measurement accuracy is recommended. This can be performed using a calibrated current source and a high-precision digital multimeter. Record the verification results to track long-term stability.
Recalibration Service
LEM offers factory recalibration services for the IT series. If verification indicates drift beyond specification, return the transducer to LEM for professional recalibration and certification.
